I'd like to wish you and your families a safe, healthy, happy and prosperous 2017!! Congrats on your accomplishments in 2016....and 2017 is going to be even better!
After writing these blogs for a few years now, I have to admit that this is one of my favorite times of the year. It's a great opportunity to look back on the past year....to celebrate all the things that we've done well, and at the same time, look forward to 2017, and think of ways to improve and make running more enjoyable, satisfying and injury free.
One of the other goals I'm a big fan of is making running fun. There's a lot of hard work involved for sure, but think about the things you enjoy and try to build more of those into your running.....try doing some different races.....go to a race along with many others in the group - the camraderie is great.....go out and buy some new running clothes or gadgets.....treat yourself....you deserve it! If you give some thought to these things I guarantee you that running will be an enjoyable part of your life for many years to come.
If you've got some challenging speed or distance goals for your races, know that things like regular stretching / core workouts / more attention to your diet and getting enough sleep, are going to help you achieve those goals.....always think of the 'big' picture and you'll have a greater chance of success.
And last, but certainly not least, think of some ways in which you can give back to others.....through volunteering.....encouraging your fellow runners during a tough run or race......or by acting as a role model for others who have a difficult time comitting to a fitness plan. Paying it forward is a real 'feel good' activity.
Setting goals applies to everyone in Renegade Runners....including me! One of my goals this year is to make Coaches Corner fresh and interesting to read.....through guest speakers.....and by covering topics you want to hear about. Please keep the feeback coming!
Most of you now have your plans set for the first quarter....if there are any questions please let me know. Together, we're going go have an awesome 2017!
